Way to go Carmelita Coleman! One of the Center for Family and Community Engagement’s community partners, Carmelita Coleman, will be a featured artist for the exhibit “The Story of Foster Care” by the Empty Frames Initiative. The exhibit will display a combination of both written and visual artwork. The photographic and written pieces of narrative and poetry offer evocative details of the foster care journey. Other participating artists include foster care alumna, social workers and foster parents.

The exhibition is curated by the Empty Frames Initiative, an Initiative that seeks to empower foster youth as they transition out of state care. Through “The Story of Foster Care” tour the Empty Frames Initiative seeks to raise funds for the purchase of their first facility supporting youth aging out of foster care here in North Carolina.

The event will be held as a part of downtown Raleigh’s First Friday events – this Friday, June 7th at 6:00pm at City Gallery Raleigh. For more information on “The Story of Foster Care” event, please visit the Empty Frames Initiative’s Facebook page.
