Welcome to CFACE, Dr. Anna Abate!

Dr. Anna Abate

We are excited to welcome our new Research Scholar, Dr. Anna Abate aboard. At the Center, she manages and oversees various ongoing research projects. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University in 2021 and completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Virginia in 2022. Although much of her education took place in Texas and Virginia, she considers herself a North Carolinian at heart, having completed her predoctoral internship and bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Research has been a core feature of her training, and she views herself as a scientist-practitioner who integrates science and practice in varied settings. Broadly, her research has been related to mental health, families and justice-involved populations. Her dissertation, funded through an NIMH F21 Fellowship, examined mechanisms by which stereotype threat in a legal setting leads to affective and behavioral maladjustment for young adults.

In her free time, Dr. Abate can be found curled up with a good book, her cat and a cup of coffee, or she may be going on long hikes with her dog. She loves celebrating the small things in life and uses each opportunity to celebrate by baking her favorite treats.

We are so excited to have you, Dr. Abate! Welcome!
