NC State Addictions Specialist Certificate Program for Paraprofessionals
NC State University’s Center for Family and Community Engagement and the School of Social Work are proud to announce the launch of the NC State Addictions Specialist Certificate Program for Paraprofessionals. New on-demand courses will be released on the 15th of each month, beginning October 15, 2020. Live course sessions will be offered for 1.5 to 3 hours on Fridays beginning October 30, 2020 from 5:00 – 8:15 p.m.*
Through this program, paraprofessionals in the field of addictions will be able to take courses to use when applying for certification with the North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board. Thanks to funding from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), we are able to offer this certificate program for a small registration fee of only $40.
Courses will be offered in four categories:
- Substance Use Specific: This series of courses will specifically focus on topics related to prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery related to substance use disorders.
- General Skill Building: This series of courses will focus on skills that are not substance abuse specific but that are related to counseling skills used within the substance use disorder arena.
- Current Topics: This series of courses will highlight current and emerging issues related to special populations that are impacted by substance use disorders.
- Live Online: This series of courses will be offered in a live online format by instructors who currently work as substance abuse professionals across the U.S.
If you are a paraprofessional in the field of addictions, please visit our website to find and complete the demographic survey that includes an eligibility screening assessment. After you complete the survey, our staff will review your answers and let you know if you qualify to enroll. If you are eligible, you will be provided with registration instructions.
Development and delivery of this certificate program is funded by grant #T97HP33390, awarded to the School of Social Work, from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Center for Family and Community Engagement.
*Please note that as of March 2022, live online events are held on Wednesdays from 5:30-7 p.m.
