Every November, we recognize Native American Heritage Month, also known as National American Indian Heritage Month. This celebration, officially designated in 1990 under President George H. W. Bush, is a time to honor the rich histories, diverse cultures, and profound contributions of Native American communities across the United States.
Throughout this month, we have a unique opportunity to reflect on the challenges Native Americans have faced—both historically and today. It is also a time to celebrate the enduring strength and resilience of Native American peoples, recognizing their significant role in shaping our nation’s history and culture.

The 29th Annual American Indian Heritage Celebration at the North Carolina Museum of History is a FREE event that takes place on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of North Carolina’s American Indian tribes through music, dance, storytelling, and hands-on activities. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the state’s Indigenous communities and their contributions.
