October 17 – November 13 was the Step to It Movement Challenge
Center Commits to Wolfpack Wellness
On November 17, 2022, ten members from the center’s team of staff, faculty, and students completed NC State University’s 4-week wellness challenge together. The Step to It Movement challenge, hosted by Wellness and Recreation beginning in mid-October, focused efforts to encourage and support improving overall health within the Wolfpack community. In conjunction with other universities, agencies, and communities, NC State and the center have also weathered many challenges radiating from post pandemic norms, societal tragedies, and personal trials this past year, which for many have magnified as 2022 approaches a close.
In the spirit of partnership and collaboration, the center’s team formed quickly, and comprised of members across all areas of work including both campus based and home duty stationed individuals. This wellness challenge offered center members an opportunity to come and “be” together in health and wellness, joining with other teammates who often do not work together given diverse and varied team and contract foci.
Team “We Walk Together to Be Together” began their step count on October 14th. Through the course of the four weeks, individuals daily step counts ranged from 631 steps a day to the highest daily step count of 23,585 achieved by Lyn Davis on November 6th! Additionally, Dr. Glenda Clare achieved the highest weekly step count with 102,870 steps during the second week of the challenge! Individuals shared with one another how theyachieved their steps daily on a weekly log available to all team members. We found that our members sought wellness by walking around the town or neighborhood, walking around as part of their day, on a treadmill or the elliptical machine, or at a nearby state park. Several step, or walking “buddies”- who are happily featured below, joined members during their daily excursions making the steps even more worthwhile! With the fortune of having team members located throughout the state, some beautiful scenery was also experienced over the four-week period. Turning leaves at a state park in Jamestown, NC; -snow scenes from the mountains of western North Carolina, and leafy covered trails of a state park in central North Carolina. Dr. Kwesi Brookins, Director of the Center was in full support and grateful for his team taking time over the challenge period to honor and care for their physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
